Hello,
My name is Alice and I live in Michigan with my mother and sister.
My sister and I are college students and our mother is unable to work. The 2 of us work hard to pay for our tuition and help our mother with utility bills, property taxes and food for our table. We do not own a car and use bicycles or take city bus to school and work.
Last year we could no longer afford the rent on our apartment. We looked for other rentals but everything was too expensive for us. We became desperate and decided to use our savings to bid on a cheapest house auctioned by the county. We were not permitted to inspect the house before the auction and after we won the bid we learned that the house had many undisclosed costs. Using what little savings we had we needed to buy a new furnace, major roof repairs and gutters, termite removal, and repair of several windows and doors just to move in.
Most disturbing to us was the basement air ducts that are wrapped in asbestos tapes. This is a very dangerous and unlawful material that is now falling apart and is airborne throughout the whole house. The 3 of us wear masks 24 hours a day to slow our inhalation of asbestos.
With every passing minute, exposure to airborne asbestos leads to increasing risk of scarring of the lungs and intoxication of the bloodstream, leading to Asbestosis, lung cancer, Mesothelioma, and many other types of cancer and fatal diseases.
For our health and safety we must have the asbestos removed and this can only be done by a licensed professional. The lowest quote we received from Asbestos Abatement companies is $2,500. We honestly cannot afford this!
As the very last hope after months calling around every possible agencies and NPOs, I am writing this fundraiser in such a desperate and helpless situation while living in this hazardous house. I hope you will offer your help with understanding and humanity. I am grateful for your compassion and kindness!
No matter how big or small, your contribution will help save another day of our lives to live free from Asbestos. Please donate and share this link with as many as possible. Any help will be deeply appreciated! God bless you!
