Exclusive Preview: UN International Day of Peace Concert Hits Times Square
— Beatles Members Lead Global Stars in a Call for Peace
(New York, August 2026) — On September 19, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at 46th–47th Street in Times Square, New York, the 24th Annual UN International Day of Peace Concert will take center stage. Hosted by the nonprofit Good News Corporation and held under the United Nations International Day of Peace framework, this global gala is not merely a musical celebration, but a powerful call for the world to “pause” for peace. The concert will be rebroadcast at noon on September 21 — the UN’s official International Day of Peace — extending this message of peace to millions more via YouTube and other platforms. The global Peace Day Party will also be unfolding simultaneously at www.peacedayparty.org, inviting people around the world to join the celebration online.

For over two decades since 2002, this initiative has endured for 24 years. Its founder, Paul Sladkus — a veteran television producer formerly with CBS and PBS, and a key driving force behind Earth Day — has spent a quarter of a century transforming Times Square into a global beacon of peace. Good News Corporation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, sustained by tax-deductible public donations that help underwrite these profoundly meaningful yet costly global peace events. If you would like to support this mission, please visit: https://goodnewsplanet.com/pausetheworld/peace-day-donations/

Paul Sladkus is a man who simply does not do small things.
He contributed to iconic American television programs including All in the Family, The Carol Burnett Show, and Sonny and Cher during the golden age of CBS and PBS. In 1985, he founded a multicultural marketing agency serving Fortune 100 companies such as IBM, Citibank, and Delta Air Lines. Yet at the height of his television empire, he chose to pivot — establishing Good News Corporation in 2002 and dedicating his life to peace and environmental philanthropy.
For 24 years, he has relied not on noise, but on persistence. From Central Park to Times Square, from Earth Day to Peace Day, he has transformed the world’s busiest crossroads into a pulpit for love and peace. He is also an ordained reverend of All Faiths & Spirituality, connecting the world with a spirit that transcends denominations. One might say Paul is not merely organizing events; he is writing a chronicle of how humanity can treat one another with kindness.
As Paul himself says, “No bomb can come close… Peace and Love is the most powerful opportunity humankind has.”

This year’s concert lineup can only be described as “a Grammy-and-Oscar gathering for peace.” Beatles member Ringo Starr (virtually or in person, TBD), Oscar winner Michael Douglas, Grammy legend Stevie Wonder, Latin superstar Shakira (performing for UNICEF), and UN Messenger of Peace Dr. Jane Goodall will all participate in various forms. Some guests will appear via virtual link and video messages, joining the live audience in Times Square and millions of viewers around the world in witnessing this historic moment.
According to McKinsey & Co., 1.6 billion people are now aware of Peace Day. The mission of Good News Corporation is: “Pause the World for a Moment, Cease Fire, Hug for Peace… at NOON on the UN-unanimously declared September 21.”

The event is officially partnered with NYC Parks, the Times Square Alliance, and SAPO, and will be broadcast globally via GoodNewsBroadcast, YouTube (www.youtube.com/goodnewsbroadcast), UNIFY, and other platforms. The 2025 Peace Day broadcasts garnered over 4 million impressions. Partners include EarthDay.org, Samsung, Deloitte, General Motors, and other international organizations and corporations.

Additionally, this year’s Peace Day celebration will feature two special highlights:
I. Documentary Premiere. On September 21, the International Day of Peace, Good News Corporation will premiere the documentary Woodstock Forever: Peace, Love and HOPE. The full-length documentary was produced by Paul Sladkus, and was created in 1989 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Woodstock, capturing that legendary era of peace and love. II. Virtual Global Peace Pole Project. In collaboration with the May Peace Prevail on Earth organization, Good News Corporation is launching the Virtual Global Peace Pole Project, inviting people around the world to place a Peace Pole in their country, community, home, or wherever they feel it will be welcomed. As a firsthand witness at the 56th Annual Earth Day Times Square Concert on April 22 this year, I saw firsthand the professionalism and passion of Paul Sladkus and his team. That charity gala, themed “Love Your Mother,” ran from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, bringing together global environmental forces and broadcasting live worldwide via YouTube and We Don’t Have Time. On that day, British comedy superstar Russell Brand and I appeared as surprise guests at the Crossroads of the World, joining over fifty performers and speakers in sharing a vision for ecological protection and peaceful development.

From Earth Day to Peace Day, from environmental protection to ceasefires, Paul Sladkus has spent 24 years proving one thing: Peace is not an empty slogan, but concrete action and unwavering commitment.
On September 19, let us look forward to the world pausing for peace in Times Square. On September 21, let us gather again across global livestreams to witness the power of peace together.
May peace prevail.

The second-warmest June
ever recorded globally on land

At 1.39°C above the estimated pre-industrial average, June 2026 continued the recent run of exceptional global heat, according to Copernicus. More concerning, Earth’s energy imbalance, the gap between the energy the planet absorbs and the heat it radiates back into space, has roughly doubled over the past two decades. This means the climate system is accumulating heat faster. Scientists are now investigating whether the rate of global warming itself is accelerating and what that could mean for future climate extremes.

A Dangerous Heatwave Is Also
Spreading Across Earth’s Oceans

https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/7nVU1aA2nfsTSsDeddNLnk3ps7yyzsf/VNexDNLK4GNv

Another dangerous heatwave is unfolding across the ocean, mostly out of sight.

The ocean covers about 71% of our planet. Seen from the Pacific side, Earth appears to be almost nothing but water. For decades, this vast blue surface has absorbed more than 90% of the excess heat trapped by greenhouse gases, shielding us from even more intense warming on land. Now the ocean is breaking heat records, and a strengthening El Niño is forming over exceptionally warm seas.

In this deep dive, We Don’t Have Time founder Ingmar Rentzhog explains how stored ocean heat can return to us as extreme weather, shifting rainfall, deepening droughts, fuelling heavier downpours and disrupting storm patterns around the world. The story also explores what rising ocean temperatures mean for coral reefs, fisheries, sea-level rise, oxygen loss and the billions of people whose lives depend on a healthy ocean.

It is an unsettling read, particularly for anyone who has not closely followed what is happening beneath the surface. But it is not without solutions. We can still limit how much more heat enters the ocean by ending fossil fuel emissions, rapidly cutting methane, protecting marine ecosystems and strengthening the systems that monitor our changing seas.

Read the long read in Forbes, and please share it with your network. The ocean has bought us time. What we do now will determine whether that time was wasted.

Fossil Fuel Answer To The Heatwaves:
Rewrite The Rules To Stay Untouchable

https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/cl/f/sh/7nVU1aA2ng01QyEsXuJ9xBL4XZy7xej/UhtC8C47mg0k

The heatwaves above are not abstract warnings. They are the cost of fossil fuel pollution, measured in lost lives, failed harvests and rising insurance bills.

The fossil fuel answer? Not to stop the pollution. To rewrite the rules so no one can touch them.

Two rewrites are happening right now. One in New Zealand, one in the EU. Both can still be stopped, and you have days, not weeks, to act.

Rewrite 1: Make polluters unsueable

New Zealand is considering a bill that would block climate lawsuits against major emitters. It could kill the groundbreaking case brought by Māori elder Mike Smith against Fonterra and other large polluters, even after the Supreme Court ruled it should proceed. People would still suffer the floods and fires. The companies behind them would sit beyond the reach of any court.

⚠ You can stop this before July 13. Anyone, anywhere in the world, can submit to New Zealand’s Justice Committee. It takes five minutes. Ask it to reject the Climate Change Response (Tort Liability) Amendment Bill.

Submit to New Zealand’s Justice Committee

Rewrite 2: Relabel oil expansion as “transition”

On Wednesday, July 15, MEPs on the European Parliament’s economic affairs committee ECON will vote on whether oil and gas expansion can qualify under the EU’s “transition” finance label. If the proposal is adopted, a company opening new oil and gas fields could carry a green “transition” investment label, as long as 20% of its spending goes to green activities. Read the full story.

⚠ You can stop this before July 15.

If you live in the EU:

  1. Open the ECON committee member list.
  2. Find the members and substitutes from your country.
  3. Click their names, then look for the contact section, or click the envelope icon. Their official email address is listed there.
  4. Write a few honest lines in your own words. Ask them to keep companies expanding oil and gas out of the transition label and restore the exclusion in the Commission’s original proposal. Share the Forbes article for background and arguments.

If you live outside the EU: Share the article on your social media feed and write to the two people leading this file: rapporteur Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy and ECON chair Aurore Lalucq. You can find their emails the same way.

Missed the IEA’s Global Conference on Energy Efficiency? Now you can catch the highlights on demand.

Over two days in Montreal, We Don’t Have Time brought together global leaders, policymakers and industry experts to tackle one of the biggest untapped opportunities in the energy transition.

Why is implementation still lagging behind ambition? What’s holding back electrification? Which financing models are finally unlocking projects at scale? These conversations get straight to the heart of the challenges—and the solutions.

Energy efficiency is often called the first fuel: the fastest, cheapest and most overlooked way to cut emissions, lower costs and strengthen energy security. These sessions show why.

What you should know
  • Free drop-off program offers children an evening of supervised recreation while parents and caregivers enjoy a few hours to themselves
  • Families can register online from July 13 through July 20

NEW YORK – Today, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura announced the launch of NYC Parks’ first-ever Parents’ Night Out, a free, one-night drop-off program that gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to enjoy an evening to themselves while children participate in supervised fun at select NYC Parks recreation centers across the five boroughs.

While parents recharge, run errands, enjoy a date night or simply take time for themselves, children will spend the evening participating in supervised games, sports and fitness activities, arts and crafts, media education programs and nature exploration with Urban Park Rangers, all led by trained NYC Parks staff. The experience is designed to showcase the wide range of engaging recreational programs NYC Parks offers year-round. Dinner will be provided for all participants.

“Every parent knows that a few hours to yourself can feel like a luxury,” said Mayor Mamdani. “It shouldn’t be. That’s why we’re launching New York City’s first-ever Parents’ Night Out, so that parents can get a little time on their own to catch a movie, run errands or go on a date without worrying about who will take care of the kids — or how much it will cost. Making New York City more affordable isn’t just about lowering costs, it’s about giving people back their time. This administration is committed to making it easier to raise a family in the greatest city in the world.”

“Parents and caregivers spend so much of their time taking care of everyone else, and they deserve an opportunity to recharge,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura. “Our first-ever Parents’ Night Out is about making sure our administration is working for New Yorkers by providing a free, safe and fun experience for children while giving families a few hours to themselves. Whether it’s enjoying dinner or simply taking a well-earned break, we’re proud to offer an affordable program that supports families and strengthens our communities.”

This free program reflects NYC Parks’ commitment to making recreation more accessible and support working families by creating affordable opportunities that improve quality of life for New Yorkers. Children will enjoy an evening of recreation, including active games, sports, arts and crafts and group activities at the following in NYC Parks recreation centers:

Brooklyn:
Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center
3105 Farragut Pl, Brooklyn, NY 11210

Manhattan:

Bronx:
Kwame Ture Recreation Center

1527 Jesup Ave, Bronx, NY 10452

Staten Island:

Space is limited, and registration is required on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-ins will not be permitted. Families must register online between Monday, July 13 and Monday, July 20 and are asked to register for only one location. To apply, please visit: nyc.gov/parks/parentsnightout.

Following registration, participants will receive information by email about completing a required event waiver by Friday, July 31 and obtaining a free NYC Parks Recreation Center membership for each participating child by Sunday, August 16.

Recreation center memberships are always free for children, and all participants must be between the ages of 6 and 13 by August 16, 2026.
